A Pafos-based company, New Anesis Travel & Tours, has signed an agreement with China’s Zhongjia Chenfei General Aviation, thus paving away for direct flights between Cyprus and China.
The agreement is expected to begin from March 2016, and Chinese travel agents, journalists and a TV crew are due to visit Cyprus before Christmas 2015.
It is estimated that around 400,000 Chinese tourists will visit the island during 2016, with the direct flights coming from Shanghai.
Andreas Demetriades, president at the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated that Pafos has the potential to take advantage of the increased interest from China to attract investment.
During Demetriades’ recent visit to China, he added that the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry delegation discussed the possibility of creating a technological park as well as establishing pharmaceutical and other types of business across the region.
Moreover, Demetriades outlined that the greatest interest for investments in the region comes from the travel and tourism sector as approximately 117 million Chinese tourists travel each year.
