16 new young recruits have joined the Cyprus Golf Federation’s Pafos-based junior golf academies on their “Olympic Pathway to Golf” initiative.

Each youngster has completed 12 hours of training at their chosen academy and will now continue learning how to play golf, with each child receiving a brand new set of golf clubs courtesy of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club (R&A) through a scheme funded by The R&A and administered by the Cyprus Golf Federation.

12 children from the 16 belong to the Aphrodite Hills Golf Academy with PGA Pro, Tom Brewer recruiting the young golfers from a local school.

Secret Valley Junior Academy recruited four children thanks to PGA Pro, Paul Dyer.

Additionally, the Cyprus Golf Federation’s “Olympic Pathway to Golf” initiative received another boost at the recently held Aphrodite Hills Junior Golf Open on June 28, 2015. Playing at the tournament were young golfers from the island’s newest junior golf academy, Vikla Golf Club.

In total 56 junior golfers from academies throughout Cyprus took part in the Aphrodite Hills Junior Golf Open. Four categories of play with a three-hole competition for the beginners, nine holes for the more proficient, an 18-hole handicap net for the most advanced golfers and a sub-category to find the National Order of Merit winner who was decided on a gross score basis, were competed for.
