easyJet continuing to increase Cyprus operations

Neil Slaven, easyJet’s UK Commercial Manager speaks exclusively to Cyprus Traveller telling us why the island is among the airline’s most important and popular destinations.

CT: Why is Cyprus such an important base for easyJet’s operations?

Neil: Cyprus is a very attractive leisure destination in easyJet’s network and we began our operations to and from the island in 2008 connecting the UK with Pafos bringing tourists at affordable fares to this fantastic holiday destination. For this reason easyJet is undisputedly a partner of the Cypriot economy and tourism, and continues to invest in Cyprus, increasing its presence at an average growth of six per cent per year over the last five years.

easyJet is also attractive for a large number of Cypriot business travellers that choose the airline to connect to Europe taking advantage of our unrivalled network of primary airports across Europe, punctuality and high standard service. easyJet connects Cyprus to 10 destinations and has carried over 600,000 passengers to and from the country in 2014.

CT: With easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou having Cypriot roots, has this meant that the island is a particularly special one for the airline?

Neil: Of course there is somewhat of a sentimental value due to the fact that our founder has Cypriot origin, however easyJet has a very profitable business model and constantly assesses its network in the interest of our shareholders and to offer a product that proves popular with our passengers.

CT: Which routes that easyJet provides inbound to Cyprus are proving to be the most popular?

Neil: Cyprus is one of the top sun destinations among British tourists and we connect the country to six different UK cities, but also to three other European countries such as Italy, Switzerland and Germany. easyJet connects Pafos with London Gatwick, London Luton, Bristol, Edinburgh and Manchester and Larnaka with Basel, London Gatwick, Liverpool and Milan Malpensa. We have also just launched a new connection between Larnaka and Berlin Schönefeld which first took off on March 31.

CT: Why should travellers booking their holidays to Cyprus choose easyJet as their airline?

Neil: easyJet attracts customers who wish to travel to Cyprus for both leisure and business due to its unrivalled European network, affordable fares and friendly service.

CT: Do you have anything else you would like to add?

Neil: easyJet has a digital leadership in the aviation industry and constantly looks for new ways to improve the travel experiences of our passengers and providing up-to-date information on the latest technology. easyJet’s app, which has been downloaded over 11 million times to date, enables customers using an iOS or Android device to scan their passport details using their smartphone camera making it quicker and easier to check-in, download their digital boarding pass, check the latest real time updates on their flights, book flights and manage their bookings. Our Apple Watch app is another example of innovating to make travel as easy as it is affordable with easyJet.
