Päivyt Tallqvist, media relations director at Finnair tells Cyprus Traveller why the island is among the most popular holiday destinations for Finns during the summer holidays.
CT: Firstly, please can you confirm from where Finnair flies to Cyprus from and the frequency?
Päivyt: For summer 2015, Finnair flies to Pafos International Airport from Finland’s Helsinki Airport from March 31 to September 29, once a week, on Tuesdays.
CT: How successful has Finnair’s flights to Cyprus been thus far?
Päivyt: Finnair had previously operated charter flights to Cyprus, but we have now transferred some of our charter destinations to scheduled flights to serve customers who want to tailor their own holiday experience rather than travel on a package tour.
Operating these scheduled flights also gives Cyprus connections to Finland, the Baltic nations and Asia via Finnair’s network that covers 15 destinations across Asia and well over 60 European destinations. Suntours, Finnair’s tour operator company, also continues to offer holiday packages to Cyprus.
CT: When are you finding is the busiest period for your flights to Cyprus and why do you believe this to be the case?
Päivyt: Cyprus is a holiday destination for Finns, so the peak times are typically from June to August when most take their summer holiday. Suntours organises package tours to Pafos and Limassol because the island has been a popular holiday destination among Finns for several years.
CT: Why do you believe Cyprus is a great destination for Finns to visit?
Päivyt: Finns go to Cyprus to experience the great food, local lifestyle, and of course the sun and sea. Limassol is popular as you can combine a city break with a beach holiday. Limassol is also popular among younger holidaymakers because the nightlife is very lively. Additionally, Pafos is famous for its beautiful beaches and especially popular among families and golf enthusiasts have found it to be a great destination to visit.
