Located in one of the smallest villages in Cyprus, Miliou, is the ideal wellness getaway that is Ayii Anargyri Natural Healing Spa Resort.
Prior to me taking the long drive from Nicosia to the resort I had already heard from many friends that had previously visited how much they had enjoyed themselves. One word kept coming up when describing their stay to me, and that was relaxation.
Situated next to Miliou’s famous healing springs, Ayii Anargyri offers extensive health and beauty treatments with the ‘magical’ waters, yoga classes and has its own beautiful vineyard and orchard. Add to that it’s also an adults-only resort, it was previously a monastery, and it is based within a picturesque setting of citrus groves, almond trees and natural springs. I knew that after my long drive I’ll be at the perfect place to relax and unwind.
Just before reaching the resort I took a wrong turn but was delighted to see two surprising guests who were glad to point me in the right direction – a Cyprus donkey and horse! After having a brief moment going through the directions I needed to take, I got them to pose for a few pictures before I headed on my way. Surely within a few minutes I arrived at the hotel thanks to the help of my two new friends that I decided to name Max and Rocky!
When I finally turned my car engine off I felt like I had taken a short flight and was feeling jet-lagged so a quick and smooth check-in was definitely what I was hoping for. Thankfully everything went as hoped and I was provided with a nice hot towel and lovely fresh glass of orange juice from the resort’s own orchard.
Entering my spacious standard room I immediately appreciated the warm, cozy feel of the space and was impressed with how clean it was. A lovely view of the green scenery from my private porch was also a bonus!
Batteries recharged a short while later I decided to go for a walk and absorb the peaceful surroundings and take in some fresh mountain air. No iPod was necessary as nature provided its own music with birds and frogs performing a lovely duet together to accompany me on my walk.
Surrounded by beautiful olive trees, seeing freshly grown herbs and fruits grown along the path, and viewing the resort’s own orange orchard, it’s great to see how the surroundings are very much appreciated.
With dinner time approaching I headed back to my room to freshen up before making my way to Ayii Anargyri’s signature Cava Gourmet restaurant. Previously a wine cellar Cava Gourmet provides a great relaxing vibe with lounge music, large handmade wooden tables, warm cozy colours and, of course, numerous different wines flanked on either side of the diners.
I decided to start off my dining experience with potatoes and caper butter sauce and I can safely say it was one of the most delicious potato dishes I’ve ever had! Simple yet extremely tasty, there’s no better formula than that.
For my main I was equally satisfied with a delicious lavender and honey glazed chicken with pine nut, parsley and honey-Madeira sauce.
Topping off my meal was a sumptuous ginger infused crème brûlée.
Feeling extremely satisfied with my delicious dinner the time then arrived to head back to my room and enjoy a good night’s rest to feel fresh and energised for my long drive back to Nicosia in the morning.
Waking up to nature’s music was a great start to the new day and soon after breakfast was calling. Based on the perfect meal last night I was very much looking forward to this dining experience.
There wasn’t the traditional buffet breakfast that most hotels tend to offer, instead there were a selection of fresh juices, cheese, cold cuts, nuts etc. For a hot meal I chose poached eggs on toast with spinach and hollandaise sauce, loukaniko (pork sausage) and hash brown from the à la carte menu provided. Delicious!
I can safely say that this will not be the last time I visit Ayii Anargyri as I now know what my friends truly meant when they all said how relaxing they found their stay to be. Not only that, it would be great to also meet with Max and Rocky again!
