INTERVIEW: Elea Golf Club “setting new standards” for Cyprus
Golf Sales & Marketing Manager at Elea Golf Club, Eirini Zinouli speaks to Cyprus Traveller and tells us why Sir Nick Faldo’s ‘Mediterranean Masterpiece’ should be on any golfers ‘bucket list’.
CT: What makes Elea Golf Club a unique place to visit for local and international guests?
Eirini: Elea Golf Club is a unique place to visit for both local and international guests. It is not without a reason that it is called Sir Nick Faldo’s ‘Mediterranean Masterpiece’. The unique atmosphere of Elea is a combination of many different elements. The most important of them are the below:
First, its charismatic location. Elea Golf Club is only seven km away from Kato Pafos, eight km from Pafos International Airport and 65km from Limassol.
Secondly, the challenging Par 71 course, designed by the legendary Sir Nick Faldo, in combination with the ideal conditions on the course all-year-round and the Mediterranean flora and fauna dominating the landscape, makes the place the most interesting golf meeting spot in the Southeast Mediterranean.
Furthermore, Elea golf course is an amazing place to enjoy golf. Its layout circulates through groves of mature carob and olive trees, Mediterranean grasses and an abundance of wild herbs and native flora. This stunning visual effect offers a truly Mediterranean feel while retaining the ethos of a traditional experience.
The world-class golf facilities are perfectly matching with the stylish terraced Elea Clubhouse, which sits above the course offering panoramic views across the course and down to the sea.
Undoubtedly, with its Mediterranean architecture Elea Golf Club has set new standards for Cyprus golf clubs.
Additionally, just alongside the clubhouse, golfers can visit Elea Golf Academy, which features a full-length 300m-long driving range complete with target greens and bunkers, a short game practice area and a putting green overlooking the whole course.
At the practice areas, golfers can enjoy practicing or can arrange lessons with one of our three golf professionals, who will help them to improve their performance.
When a golfer arrives at Elea the first place they visit is the Golf Shop which is an important part of the experience. It not only sells many of the biggest and best brands of golf attire, but we are very proud to be the only golf club in Cyprus to provide a custom fitting service for golf clubs, a service which is highly appreciated by golfers.
Last but not least, there’s Elea Restaurant. Before or after the round, with friends or family, for golfers or non-golfers, Elea Restaurant is the perfect place to relax and enjoy great food and excellent service.
With its variety of dining options and wine tasting lounge, Elea Restaurant gives our visitors a unique culinary experience.
CT: Since beginning operations, can you describe the journey Elea Golf Club has been on to evolve into what it is today?
Eirini: Elea started operating in October 2010, with a memorable opening event which saw Sir Nick Faldo present to reveal his ‘Mediterranean Masterpiece’.
Our mission was to make Elea one of the best golf courses in Mediterranean, and we believe we have done very well so far. We are proud to say that, after seven years in operation, Elea became a top choice for golfers across Europe and took Cyprus golf to new levels.
Our cooperation with key Golf tour operators all over Europe, and also our participation in golf ‘stay and play’ packages with local luxury hotels, gave us the right boost to move forward and create awareness for Elea.
Organising international tournaments, in cooperation with the Cyprus Golf Federation, and increasing our members year-by-year, gave us the strength to promote our brand both locally and internationally.
“Team work and attention to detail” has been our motto since the beginning. We believe that keeping our high standards, even during challenging periods, has been the key to move forward and reach our goals.
CT: Why should golfers visiting Cyprus choose to visit Elea Golf Club during their trip?
Eirini: If you are a golfer and visit Cyprus, you must play at Elea. You can’t miss playing one round (or two) at Sir Nick Faldo’s ‘Mediterranean Masterpiece’ for all the reasons mentioned above.
Additionally, we are proud to have been awarded as the best golf course in Cyprus for three consecutive years (2015, 2016, 2017) by Leading Courses.
The conditions of the golf course are remarkably good all-year-round, helping Elea to rank 82nd between Europe’s 100 best courses by Top 100 Golf Courses.
At this point I must mention and praise our expert staff for their amazing work. We have a diverse and well-experienced team to assist our visitors with all their requirements.
The warm welcoming and great clubhouse and restaurant services, create the perfect atmosphere for visitors who appreciate high standards and quality experiences.
CT: Why do you believe Cyprus is a great all-year-round destination for golfers to visit?
Eirini: We are blessed with this amazing climate all-year-round. Cypriot winters are mild and very attractive to the millions of golfers who travel during the winter months.
In the UK, Germany, Austria, and Sweden for example, where the golfing season is limited due to unfavourable weather, destinations like Cyprus are popular to people who invest in golf holidays.
An extra important reason which makes our destination interesting to golfers is that we have four fantastic championship golf courses across the Pafos region. This enriches the visitor experience who mostly choose to play at one or two courses during their stay.
CT: Are there any developments that travellers/golfers can expect from Elea?
Eirini: We are hoping to soon move into our next phase which includes a luxury boutique hotel, golf lodges, a spa and pool complex.
