Limassol Marina is set to welcome S/Y Nireas at her home port later today (June 16, 2015) at 19:00.

The 65ft carbon fiber, epoxy built Cometa maxi sailing yacht embarked on a 1,500 nautical mile maiden voyage from Marseille, France with a team manned by local experienced sailors.

This trip is dedicated to the memory of Calliope Mavroyianni, who passed away in September 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Sailing was Mavroyianni’s greatest passion and she competed in various offshore regattas.

Mavroyianni was a key member of the Cyprus Sailing Federation and served on the Board as its treasurer. She is survived by her husband Andreas Mavroyiannis and her children, Diomides and Athena.

Following its maiden voyage S/Y Nireas will be the first of its kind offshore sailing team to compete in prestigious international regattas with a Cyprus flag putting the sport, Cyprus and the team in the international media spotlight.
