Τhe European Capital of Culture – Pafos2017 continues this week, with the Monodrama Showcase with another two performances by internationally acclaimed artists and creators.
The Monodrama Showcase gives the opportunity to Pafos and to Cyprus as a whole to be included on the international map with other respected International Monodrama Festivals.
With this very first organisation, the European Capital of Culture – Pafos2017 aims to organise and establish a major international festival in 2017 and participate in the International Monodrama Forum which is part of the International Theatre Institute.
Taking place until September 25, 2015, “D-SISYPHE” will see award-winning Tunisian actor and director Meher Awachri use the myth of Sisyphus as the main influence for this play translated by Albert Camus. Guests are taken through a journey of one night in the life of Khmais, a Tunisian worker in the middle of an existential crisis when he is expelled by his family, and through a narrative that explores issues like family, religion, exploitation, revolution and free will.
Also taking place, “KATERINA” is based on the novel of renowned Israeli writer Aharon Appelfel and directed by Lena Pogosov. This monologue recounts the story of a 35-year-old woman, played by Avishag Maidler, who committed a heinous crime and was sentenced to life in solitary confinement. The first visit she has is by her son who forces her to confront her past and the incidences in her life that led to her committing this crime.
All performances are with Greek and English surtitles and take place at the Ancient Odeon.
